9-10 June 2007: The Powerboat Championship in class O-250 in Janikowo

On Union Internationale Motonautique's website there is a calendar of Powerboat World and Europe Championships in 2007. We can read there that World Championship in class O-250 will take place in Janikowo. This Championship will be held in our town on 09-10 June 2007.

Below, we are presenting the basic information about the Powerboat class O-250.

World Championships in this class have been organized since 1966. First World Championship title was won by Germen pilot - Joachim Conrad. The present World Champion is Italian - Micheleangelo Politi and the present Europe Champion is Olle Dickfors from Sweden. Poland Championship was run in 2003 and Bernard Marszałek was the winner then. Polish powerboat pilot have several successes in this class too. Waldemar Marszałek got the World Champion title four times. Also, Henryk Synoracki was World Champion once. Last nine World Championships in that class were taken by Italian pilots

The pilots in class O-250 compete in laying down position in the boats of hydroplane type. The weight of boat is up to 120 kilos and up to 190 kilos together with the pilot. The most often used engines are: Koning, Rossi and made in Poland - Sygado (from the constructors' names: Synoracki, Grabarski and Dorozała). The capacity is from 176 to 250 centimetres. They use special kind of petrol which is the mixture of methanol and castor oil. The power of engine is about 70 KM. Maximum speed is about 140 kph. The best speed record belong to British - Malcolm Goodman (166,77 kph).

There is still much time to The Powerboat World Championship in class O-250. But, we are already happy because of the fact that our town will be hosting that event.

Haręza - Aderholt's collision
Posted by redakcja on Saturday, June 17 @ 22:12:15 CEST

It has passed two weeks since Powerboat Championship in Janikowo. Now we would like to publish our correction.
Earlier, we stated that there was a collision in second race in the class O-700, between Tadeusz Haręza and James Aderholt and this accident was caused by Polish driver - Haręza.
After that event, there was no official protest from either site coming to the Judge's Committee. Because of that, it has to be declared, that nobody was guilty of this collision - neither Tadeusz Haręza nor James Aderholt.
We apologize for the lack of full information about this invent on our website.

Powerboat Championship in Janikowo - resume

The Powerboat Championship Janikowo 2006 is a history. Two days went by very fast - as fast as bolides ran on the lake and passed the spectators, judges and starting deck.

The weather was very nice during the first day of competition. It was worm and sunny. All planned races were run. During his first race in class S-350, Adam Łabęcki had a capsize (photo) but nothing serious happened to pilot.

A collision between Tadeusz Haręza and Aderholt James was the second important moment of that day. The judges stated that Haręza was guilty in this accident. Nothing happened to pilots but the boats were damaged and they could not continue their reces.

The winner of the Europe Championship first qualification round in Formula 350 (this round took place in Italy two weeks ago) - Bedy Tunde did not finish any of two races which took place in this class that day.

After races, we could watch the artistic program. Wojciech G±sowski was the star of the evening. After that concert we were able to admire the Fire Theatre Show done by Maskon from Pako¶ć. After that performance, a group of young people from Janikowo had their own show devastating the stage and making some damages to WOPR motorboat. It took few hours of work during Sunday morning to fix that boat. Everything ended with the Police's intervention. Six people were stopped by Police.

Saturday was a nice day but Sunday was not because of weather condition. It was windy, chilly and rainny. Fortunately, with some delays, the races could be continued. In the third race in F-350, we could see Bedy Tunde who won in very nice style.

Because of pretty strong wind, racing was dangerous for pilots. Kasia Ciłok had dangerous situation but fortunately she was able to control her boat (photo 2).

Kornel Vo from Hungary had less luck. Strong wind was the reason for his fall. We can see that dangerous moment on photo number 3 and 4. Also that time, the pilot saved his skin.

Everything finished with the closing ceremony. The medals, cups and prizes were given to the winners. We will host powerboat pilots again next year.

Interview - Paul Jillings
Posted by redakcja on Sunday, June 04 @ 21:37:46 CEST

Interview with Paul Jillings from UK made by Bartosz Nurzyński

Bartosz Nurzyński (Events Spokesperson): What are you trying to do today?
Paul Jillings: Today, I've been trying to set the boat up for ruffle conditions and make it more drivable.
BN: I see you are trying to fix your motor. What kind of motor do you use?
PJ: This is GRM Rossi engine made in Italy but this is "250" model not "350" and it is year 2000 engine so is pretty old.
BN: I saw yesterday that this was pretty hard riding. Are you trying to prepare mentally for these races?
PJ: You have to try your mind set in great condition because if you not 100% mentally then you can make the mistake and end up hurting yourself or somebody else.
BN: Thank you. Good luck.
